Our story Our people Artists Zoe Milner Latest collaboration: Zoe's work Deaf Community Against Mainstream Political was exhibited as part of the 2025 Shape Open exhibition Rights Cuts Action Artist statement: Zoe Milner is a Nottingham-based deaf visual artist, who focuses on deaf culture and activism within contemporary art. Their work highlights their overwhelming journey navigating childhood as a deaf person, unfolding memories to tell a story about deaf discrimination, social injustice, and disability rights through bold colour and text. Leaving deaf school after eleven years to head straight into mainstream college, Zoe faced the challenge of translating deaf society and culture to new surroundings, impacting their communication skills and emotional wellbeing. Their protest-themed practice allows Zoe to build confidence, freedom, and to share these personal experiences. Zoe’s first and preferred language is British Sign Language, which informs the translations present in their text-based work, embedding deaf culture into the audience’s experience.
