Latest Shape collaboration: Selected artist for the 2023 Emergent bursary with BALTIC and Shape Arts. Emma was a selected artist for the ARA Shortlist 2025 and exhibited her new commissioned photography series at the Shape Open exhibition Rights Cuts Action: The creativity of disabled resistance.

Artist Statement: Emma Bentley-Fox is a socially-engaged artist with a trauma-informed and multidisciplinary approach, working between Yorkshire & London. They work primarily in analogue photography with a focus on the embedded documentation of communities in the North of England. Their work also extends to installation, performance, writing, bookmaking, and participatory projects. Their practice offers community building and collaborative working to generate moments of joy, healing, intimacy and kinship, as ways to address pervasive structural inequalities.

As a photographer, Emma works primarily using analogue equipment and processes, and considers their photographic practice to be both collaborative and documentary. More recently, they have been expanding their photography-based work, exploring darkroom spaces as sites for healing and intimacy through somatically-informed practices.
